The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday disposed of a contempt case against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan after he appeared before the top electoral body and submitted a written apology.

The cricketer-turned-politician was accused of criticsing the ECP as biased- in January and again in September.

According to Pakistan media, Khan was accompanied by his party counsel Babar Awan, Secretary General Jahangir Tareen and leaders Shafqat Mehmood and Naeemul Haque.

During the hearing, a five-member bench headed by Chief Election Commissioner Justice (retd.) Sardar Muhammad Raza directed Khan's lawyer to submit a written apology over his remarks accusing the ECP of bias in a foreign funding case.

The PTI chief and his lawyer penned down an apology before submitting it to the ECP, Dawn News reported.

Earlier, the ECP had issued non-bailable arrest warrants against the 65-year-old to ensure his presence in the case but the Islamabad High Court (IHC) suspended the arrest warrant after the PTI chief approached the court challenging the poll body's powers.
