The Mumbai police on Tuesday arrested Sajjad Mughal, the killer of Mumbai-based lawyer, Pallavi Purkayastha, from Srinagar-Leh highway.
He had jumped parole last year and had reportedly escaped to Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking to ANI, father of the deceased, Atanu Purkayastha, said, "I hope that the judiciary will now take cognizant over the matter. He should be given capital punishment for the crime that he has done. Last year has been a very difficult time for us. But justice has not been done till now. He should be hanged."
Meanwhile, Mumbai Police Commissioner DD Padsalgikar said, "A team, led by Inspector Sanjay Nikam, went to Jammu and Kashmir three-four times. They tracked him and brought him back successfully".
On August 9, 2012, Pallavi was found murdered in the rented flat in Mumbai's Wadala.
Sajjad Mughal, who worked as a security guard at the building, confessed to killing her. He said that he had entered the flat with stolen keys and tried to force himself on her. When Pallavi resisted, he killed her with a kitchen knife.
