New Delhi, May 25 (ANI): It was back in 1999 that Ram Gopal Verma had introduced the genre of psychological thriller with his film 'Kaun', starring Urmila Matondkar.
The concept has been worked upon by several directors in the past, and now, it is 'Ragini MMS' fame director Pawan Kripalani who is attempting the same with 'Phobia', starring Radhika Apte.
However, there are some similarities between the Ram Gopal Verma directorial and Pawan Kripalani's film, which raises the question if he has taken inspiration from the former.
Both the films have some common facts such as the director shooting the entire film at one location and the central characters suffering from anxiety disorder.
Radhika Apte dismisses suggestions of any similarities between 'Phobia' and 'Kaun', pointing out that she does not take any inspiration from characters in other films to prepare for her own role.
"Phobia and Kaun have no similarities. Phobia is a very different film with a very different character. And, when I work on any character, I work very independently on it," the 'Manjhi' actor told ANI.
On being asked about the experience of shooting the entire film at one location, the actress said, "It really helped me to get into the character. We were there for a month and it was a difficult place to shoot. Another advantage was that when you shoot at one place, there is no adjustment period, you come and start work right away because you know everything about the place"
The 30-year-old plays the role of an agoraphobic, a person who has the irrational fear of open or public places. She plays a character who is scared of going out of her house.
'Phobia' is Radhika Apte's first commercial psychological thriller. The movie is produced by Eros International and Next Gen Films and will release on May 27.
