Former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and senior advocate HS Phoolka on Saturday lauded Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for sacking Food Minister Asim Ahmad Khan over charges of corruption.

"This is a laudable step by Kejriwal. It is a right decision taken by the party at an appropriate time and it was important because the case of Jitendra Tomar brought lot of disrepute to the party," advocate Phoolka told ANI.

"It was also important because the party has to send a message that it has a zero tolerance policy on the issue of corruption," he added.

When asked why the chief whip of AAP was not acting against dozen of ministers who are allegedly involved in other issues, Phoolka said that there were allegations against the members of the party which will be discussed in the court.

"The AAP has set a bench mark that, on the basis of allegations he has sacked his minister. Other parties should also act against their accused members. They should also adopt this policy of zero tolerance on corruption," he added.

Chief Minister Kejriwal yesterday called a press conference to announce that he was sacking Food Minister Ahmad Khan minister who had been caught asking for a bribe.

Khan had been accused of 'nexus with a builder', Kejriwal said, playing an audio recording of what he said was part of a one-hour conversation between the minister and the builder.

Kejriwal also said that he would ask for a CBI inquiry in the case.
