Interacting with secretaries to the Central Government here on Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi told them that the vast expertise of the secretaries in various domains of the governance should now be leveraged to bring about "breakthroughs, rather than incremental change".
In the course of interaction that lasted for over 70 minutes, the Prime Minister appreciated the work done by the Secretaries over the past one and a half years.
Prime Minister Modi exhorted the secretaries to come up with ideas for transformative change in areas such as good governance, employment generation, education and health, farmer-centric initiatives, innovative budgeting, accelerated inclusive growth, Swachh Bharat and Ganga rejuvenation, and energy efficiency.
In each of these areas, emphasised the Prime Minister, the focus should be on measures that would transformatively improve the lives of people. He laid stress on people's participation in governance and empowerment of the common man.
The participating secretaries will now interact among each other in sub-groups over the next two weeks, and after which they will present their ideas and suggestions to the Prime Minister.
Union Ministers Rajnath Singh Arun Jaitley, Sushma Swaraj and Nitin Gadkari were also present, along with senior officers of the Cabinet Secretariat and the Prime Minister's Office (PMO).
