Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday greeted the people on the occasion of Basava Jayanthi.
The Prime Minister took to Twitter to convey his wishes.
"On Basava Jayanthi I bow to Sri Basavanna, who devoted his life to service and social reform. His ideals have left a deep impact on society," Prime Minister Modi tweeted.
Basava Jayanthi marks the birthday of Basavanna, a 12th-century poet-philosopher, and the founding saint of the Lingayat religion.
The festival is celebrated with much pomp and gaiety all over south India, particularly in Karnataka, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh.
