Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Friday alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi lifted the restriction on medicine pricing due to pressure of U.S. companies.
Addressing an election rally in Nasik for the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly polls, Rahul said the price of cancer medicines had gone up many fold.
"The (U.S.) industrialists said that they wanted to sell their medicines in India. But there was restriction on medicine prices. They wanted abolition of the restriction. Modi didn't utter a word. It was not reported in the newspaper. A deal was struck behind closed doors. Now, the medicine for cancer which was available for Rs. 8,000 is now selling for Rs. 100, 000," he said.
The Congress vice-president also questioned Prime Minister Modi's silence over the intrusion of Chinese Army during President Xi Jingping's visit to New Delhi.
"His (Chinese) army was camping on our territory. Modi didn't utter a word. (Chinese) President was in India and their soldiers on Indian soil and our Prime Minister was silent because it would have ruined his image and marketing," he said.
The election in Maharashtra will take place on October 15 while the counting of votes will be held on October 19.
