The Election Commission (EC) on Friday cleared Prime Minister Narendra Modi's address to the nation on the radio and affirmed that it did not amount to the violation of the model code of conduct.
In a letter dated October 6, Congress leader KC Mittal wrote to the EC, complaining against Prime Minister Modi's broadcast in the programme 'Mann Ki Baat' on All India Radio and alleged that it violated the code, ahead of the upcoming legislative assembly elections in Maharashtra and Haryana.
However, on Friday, a letter by K Ajaya Kumar, principal secretary of the EC, stated clearly that the code was not violated.
"The audio of the speech under reference and its script have been heard and perused in the Commission. I am directed to state that the Commission did not find anything in the broadcast matter which constituted violation of Model Code of Conduct," the letter read.
