PM Modi should seek votes on principles instead of launching personal attacks: Congress

Hitting back at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his "donkey" rebuttal to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, the Congress on Friday called on the former to seek votes based on policies and principles, adding that such remarks coming from him were unbecoming.

"People voted for Modiji in the Lok Sabha elections 2014. We don't have the liberty to say things the way the Prime Minister does. The people who made him win the elections will feel betrayed," Congress leader Dwijendra Tripathi told ANI.

Further attacking the Prime Minister over delivering false promises, the Congress leader asserted that the former has failed on all fronts, be it about providing jobs to two crore Indian people or promise of depositing Rs 15 lakh each in people's bank accounts.

Earlier Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav in his rally appealed 'Sadi ke Mahanayak' (without actually naming Amitabh Bachchan) not to campaign for Gujarat' donkeys, a jibe clearly directed towards the Prime Minister.

Retaliating at Akhilesh's statement, Prime Minister Modi said, "the Congress, with which the Samajwadi Party is in alliance with, is the same party which took out postal stamps of donkeys in 2013.
