Visiting Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Tuesday said that the Indian authorities would continue to probe the money transaction between Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Dushyant Singh and former Indian Premier League (IPL) chief Lalit Modi, adding that his statements on this issue were misconstrued.
"I have never used such a word. That is never part of my domain. That is clear misinterpretation of what I said. Whatever various assessing authorities in India have to do, it's their job. They would continue to do that," Jaitley said on the sidelines of a public event at the Stanford University.
The Indian Finance Minister had earlier said that the transaction between Lalit Modi and Dushyant was commercial.
Dushyant Singh, the son of Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, has been under sharp criticism over reports that his company received Rs. 11.63 crore in investments from Lalit Modi in 2008.
This has added to the woes of the ruling BJP at the Centre as External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Vasundhara Raje are in the middle of a controversy for helping Lalit Modi. While Swaraj is facing criticism for helping Lalit Modi to get documents to travel Portugal, Raje is accused of endorsing his application to stay in the UK.
