Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh on Friday announced Rs. 10 lakh for Renuka Yadav who got selected for Rio Olympics from the state.
Coming from a lower middle-class family, Renuka Yadav, who is named in the 16-member women's hockey squad for the Rio Olympics would be the first recipient of the award from the Chief Minister.
According to reports, Renuka used to go door-to-door to sell milk as her parents worked as domestic helps.
"My Best wishes to #Chhattisgarh's pride Renuka Yadav, the 1st woman from the state to represent India in hockey at the #RioOlympics," Singh Tweeted on Wednesday .
Moreover, Four Odia girls Deep Grace Ekka, Namita Toppo, Lilima Minz, and Sunita Lakra will represent the national team in the Olympics which will be played in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from August 5 to 21.
Meanwhile, Odisha Sports Minister Sudam Marandi announced Rs. 50,000 incentives each for the four Odia players for finding a place in the National team for Rio Olympics.
The Indian women's team had last qualified for the Olympics in 1980 when they finished a commendable fourth.
India become the 10th women's team to qualify for the Rio Games after South Korea, Argentina, Great Britain, China, Germany, Netherlands, Australia, New Zealand and the U.S.
