Former Pakistan cricketer Rashid Latif has backed the decision of all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez to take retirement from the Test cricket. He said that Hafeez was, anyway, facing "technical issues" in the longest format of the game adding that he took the right decision by calling it a time on his Test career.

Latif further stated that the right-hand batsman would be a crucial team member for the upcoming 2019 cricket World Cup and that his presence would provide a good balance to the side.

"Hafeez will be an important member of the team's world cup squad. His presence will have a good impact on the overall balance of the side," the Express Tribune quoted Latif, as saying.

"He took the right decision by announcing retirement from Test cricket. He was facing technical issues in the longest format of the game," he added.

Hafeez on Tuesday had announced his retirement from the Test cricket saying that he wants to focus more on the limited-overs format especially the 2019 cricket World Cup. He has played a total of 55 Test matches scoring 3644 runs with an average of 37.96 along with scalping 53 wickets with an impressive economy rate of 2.67.
