India's discus thrower Amit Kumar Saroha, who competed against seven other athletes at the ongoing Rio Paralympics, produced a disappointing performance as he finished last in the men's discus throw F52 event here in Rio de Janeiro last evening.
After squandering the first three attempts, the 31-year-old finally registered his best throw of 9.01 meters in his fourth attempt before again making a foul in the fifth one. He managed a distance of 8.7 meters in his sixth and final attempt.
Latvia's Aigars Apinis won gold with his best throw of 20.83m while Robert Jachimowicz (19.10m) of Poland and Croatia's Velimir Sandor (18.24m) clinched silver and bronze respectively .
Meanwhile, Indian shooter Naresh Kumar Sharma failed to qualify for the medal round after making a lowly 21st-place finish in men's 10m Air Rifle Standing SH1 qualification round.
India have sent their largest-ever contingent for the Rio Paralympics as a total of 19 athletes are competing for honours.
