The general secretary of the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) Jayant Chaudhary on Wednesday supported the Supreme Court's judgement on the Muzaffarnagar riots and held the Samajwadi Party Government led by Akhilesh Yadav responsible along with the Bharatiya Janata Party for the tragedy.

"This is a big indictment given by the Supreme Court judgement and, it has clearly said that those who are guilty in the Muzaffarnagar riots must be punished. It has criticized the government for ignoring the fundamental rights of the people and failing to discharge its duties. This was a political conspiracy committed by the Uttar Pradesh government," Jayant Chaudhary said.

"He (Akhilesh) may young but his ideas are based on old beliefs. There has always been a tacit understanding between the Samajwadi party and the Bharatiya Janata Party to keep them insecured. Therefore, these people should go and people from all strata are angry with their conduct," Jayant Chaudhary added.

Supreme Court on Wednesday has taken a strong view over the lapses in sharing intelligence inputs between the Uttar Pradesh government and the Central government over mishandling of the situation and also rapped the inaction by the police over arresting the rioters.

The riots flared up in Muzaffarnagar in September last year, in the aftermath of the killing of two Jats and a Muslim. Incendiary speeches by politicians and religious leaders triggered a wave of communal violence in several villages that continued for days.
