Robert Downey Jr. warns fans to avoid online impersonators

It seems like Iron Man's on-going battle is with online scammers.

Robert Downey Jr., who portrays the character of Iron Man/Tony Stark in Marvel Cinematic Universe, warned fans for an online scam where someone or multiple people are attempting to impersonate him.

The 52-year-old actor took to Twitter and shared a message for his fans, asking them to "have each other's backs" when it came to the "scam artists."

The message read, "I will never communicate via private chat platform. And I would never ask individual fans for money for any reason."

The Oscar-nominated star also noted that any message from him will always come through his verified social media accounts, on which he has millions of followers.

The message continued, "I am constantly humbled by the incredible love, support and generosity of our little community. Some want to take advantage of that, so let's have each other's back."

Likely not wanting to put even more of a spotlight on the situation, the star didn't provide specific details of where these scams are taking place.

After appearing as Iron Man in 'Spider-Man: Homecoming' and shooting 'Avengers: Infinity War', Downey is back on set with directors Joe and Anthony Russo for the next sequel, which is still untitled.

He was recently spotted with Gwyneth Paltrow and Jon Favreau, teasing their return for 'Avengers 4'.
