Liverpool football team boss Brendan Rodgers revealed that he received a 'good luck' text from former striker Luis Suarez hours before Premier League kick off, but has insisted his squad can win the title without him.

Suarez scored 31 league goals last season, as Liverpool fell two points short of champions Manchester City, before being sold to Barcelona.

However, Anfield boss Rodgers insisted that his squad would get better without their former talisman after watching them open with a 2-1 win over Southampton on Sunday, The Mirror reported.

Rodgers said that their ambitions are clear, they have to be bigger than one player, and added that Suarez sent them a lovely text on Sunday ahead of their clash with Southampton, wishing all the best for his former teammates, and for the club to have a strong start.

The Liverpool boss said that it was a great gesture, and Suarez is a friend now of Liverpool, but they look forward, not back. He added that the club is bigger than the ambitions of any single player, they are bigger than Suarez.

Rodgers said that Suarez sent the text to him personally, adding that the Uruguayan is a good boy whose heart is with Liverpool, but he has left.
