England batsman Joe Root has reportedly been forced to leave his side's Caribbean tour due to a broken thumb, raising doubts to his chances of playing the upcoming World Twenty20 in Bangladesh.
Root was hit on the glove while batting during England's 25-run victory over West Indies in the third and final one-day international at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium on Thursday.
According to News.com.au, despite his injury, which occurred in just the third ball of his innings, Root went on to score 107 and help England clinch a 2-1 series victory, although he will take no further part in the tour after undergoing an X-ray, which revealed the full extent of the damage ahead of the first T20 clash in Bridgetown.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) reportedly stated that although Root has been ruled out of the T20 clashes against West Indies, a decision is yet to be made on his playing in the World T20.
