Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Pappu Yadav on Thursday came to the rescue of Mamata Banerjee, whose Trinamool Congress (TMC) has drawn sharp flak over its alleged involvement in the Saradha chit-fund scam, and said the nation seldom had women as honest as the West Bengal chief minister.
"I would say that just like Manmohan Singh is the most honest and humble person in this country, similarly no one can raise a finger on Mamata Banerjee, not even God. She is a very honest woman," Yadav told ANI here.
"The nation has witnessed several scams and several of the BJP's own ministers have been implicated in those cases. Mamata Banarjee is a very honest and grounded woman," he added while asserting that one should not pinpoint just the Saradha scam.
Last week, the CBI had arrested West Bengal Transport and Sports Minister Madan Mitra in connection with the Saradha scam. Taking strong exception to Mitra's arrest, Banerjee had termed his arrest illegal and unconstitutional.
