Mexican boxing star Saul Alvarez has claimed that his showdown with American superstar Floyd Mayweather Jr will alter the course of boxing history by sending Mayweather to his first defeat.

According to Metro.co.uk, Mayweather has long been considered the best fighter of his generation, with 44 wins out of 44 fights, and seems destined to enter the boxing Hall of Fame as one of the greatest of all time, with his current unblemished record intact.

However, the report said that rising light-middleweight world champion Alvarez, who is also undefeated, squares off against the majestic Mayweather at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas next Saturday with a promise to rewrite the chapters of boxing folklore.

Stating that he will change history by winning the fight, Alvarez said that the thought that the fight might be a memorable win for him motivates him, adding that he is worried about facing a champion like Mayweather as he has always been able to focus very well despite being in some very tough fights.

According to Alvarez, he is mentally very strong, adding that as the only way anyone can become the best is by beating the best, he is looking to beat Mayweather as the American is considered the best at the moment.

Dismissing the challenges of 'Pretty Boy' Mayweather, Alvarez said that Mayweather's outspokenness might be an indication that he is worried, adding that all he (Alvarez) cares about is that he is in control of his emotions.

However, Alvarez admitted that he is aware of the significance of his impending battle and is prepared for an experienced Mayweather who is still at the very top of his game, adding that he will have to follow his game plan to win his fight.
