The Supreme Court on Tuesday will hear a plea filed by filed by NGO Common Cause seeking a thorough investigation against former Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) director Ranjit Sinha's alleged involvement in the Coal Scam case.
Earlier, the apex court had refused to recall its January 23 order directing a probe against Sinha for his alleged interference in the investigation into coal block allocations during the tenure of the Congress-led UPA government.
The hearing comes after the top court constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT), after going through in great detailed the arguments put forth by the NGO.
The Supreme Court bench headed by Justice Madan B Lockur and also comprising Justice Prafulla C Pant asked the CBI to go ahead with the investigation.
"Prima facie a case is made out against him for allegedly in conniving with certain accused in the coal block scam case," the Bench of the Apex Court said in its order.
Sinha's probe falls into the rarest of rare cases, as never in the agency's history has a former director been probed by the agency itself.
