To combat illegal cross-border flows, facilitate cooperation and coordination among stakeholders, FICCI CASCADE in collaboration with the Faculty of Studies, Border Security Force, will be organising a seminar on 'Border Management and Illicit Trade' on Thursday at FICCI Federation House, Tansen Marg, here from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Minister of State for Home Hansraj Gangaram Ahir will be the chief guest at the programme, while Border Security Force Director General K.K. Sharma will also address the inaugural session.
The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) said the magnitude of smuggling and counterfeiting is widespread and demands emphasis and priority of enforcement agencies.
"Capacity building is an ongoing exercise that plays an instrumental role in motivating and enabling the law enforcement strategies. The illegal cross border trade in goods within and across borders plagues numerous countries in the world. The Illicit cross-border flows of goods has exposed us to various challenges, global evidence suggests that illicit trade involves a network of multiple actors and drawing linkages to transnational organised crimes," FICCI said on its website.
It further said the seminar focuses on sensitising BSF officers on the socio-economic impact of smuggling. "This further helps focus the officers' priority on illicit trade in the interest of decreasing overall crime in the society and revenue loss to the government," it added.
