The 'Swachh Bharat' mission launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi a little over two years ago has played a huge role in putting the focus on the significance of a clean environment.

A fortnight-long cleanliness drive was recently launched in Rajouri to commemorate two years of the mission's launch and to spread the message of cleanliness in the district as cleanliness is indeed next to godliness.

Member of Legislative Assembly Chaudhary Qammer Hussain and Deputy Commissioner Shabir Ahmed Batt flagged off this cleanliness drive.

Rajouri's Assistant Commissioner Development Noor Alam said, "We are propagating the message of maintaining clean surroundings, using toilets and construction of toilets by using the 12,000 rupees that they get in subsidies, keeping our water bodies free of pollutants, maintain clean drinking water and keeping the streets clean by collecting the garbage in the assigned garbage pits. The main message is to maintain all-round cleanliness."

The drive is being vigorously taken up in each ward within the Rajouri municipal limits as well in each Panchayat and village of the district.

The department has involved Angadwadi workers, self-help groups and religious leaders to spread the message to every household and ensure its proper implementation.

On the occasion, an awareness van was also flagged off which will reach rural areas to spread the message regarding the mission.

Such programmes will indeed go a long way in promoting a clean and healthy environment for people all over Jammu and Kashmir and India.
