A shutdown is being observed in the Kashmir Valley today like every year after calls by both factions of the Hurriyat Conference to remember the events of 1931.
Javaid Ahmad, a local resident told ANI, "Today is an important day for us. In 1931, the Dogra king killed of our 22 people here. Every year we celebrate this day. The 22 people who had been martyred are being remembered today."
"It's true that we face certain problems because of the shutdown but we have to remember the martyrs. Today almost the entire Valley will remain shut," he added.
Meanwhile, both the factions of Hurriyat Conference have urged the people to visit the Naqashband Sahib shrine on Sunday to pay their homage to the 1931 martyrs.
