Simon Cowell has reportedly turned down an invitation to Cheryl Cole's 30th birthday party in Los Angeles.

A source close to former Girls Aloud star told the Mirror that she sent an invitation of her 50,000 pound-birthday party to Cowell as she genuinely wanted him to be present at the bash, the Mirror reported.

The source asserted that Cowell has been an important part of her life and, despite the differences between them; she wanted her old friend to be there.

The insider also said that his absence would be a little disappointing for her.

The source explained that the party is expected to be one of the most memorable occasions and so she carefully chose who she invited.

Cowell and Cole famously fell out when the producer axed the singer as a judge on the 'US X Factor' and replaced her with Nicole Scherzinger.

He later asked her to rejoin the UK version of the show but the singer refused.
