Stephen Hawking has revealed that he often feels lonely as people are too scared to talk to him and even Nelson Mandela sat in silence and could not stop staring him.

The British theoretical professor, who suffers from motor neuron disease, said that at times he gets very lonely because people don't wait for him to write a response, the Mirror has reported.

The 73-year-old physicist also recalled his awkward meeting with Mandela in a BBC documentary saying that they both looked at each other as if they were from another planet, and then suddenly there was a lot of bleeping and squeaking and stuff and this voice booms out, "How nice it is to meet the great Nelson Mandela."

Hawking added that Mandela must have thought he does speak.
