Newly elected Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan on Saturday said that she will make efforts over arriving at a unanimous decision over choosing a main opposition party.
"I have just been appointed as a Speaker yesterday and I am studying on the norms as to who could become as the main opposition party. There are several opinions . Keeping everything into consideration and after taking views from eminent people who have knowledge of parliamentary affairs, will then come to a decision," she said.
"We will have to have a unanimity and I believe that it will happen if we take every one along," she added.
When asked if a speaker's job is a challenge she said: "I am the second woman speaker. God has given equal power to both men and women. A woman also has the power to control people. What is extra which is present within women is having a mother's instinct, my aim will be to work in sync with that instinct."
On a question about the previous Lok Sabha session, Mahajan said: "I do not want to comment about the commotion in the previous Lok Sabha. What is important is that we need to have a productive debate in the new Lok Sabha. We need to work more which I believe are challenges before me. We have to make sure that Lok Sabha sessions are carried out in an orderly fashion and agendas are fulfilled. Hence, it will be a combined help from all quarters including the media that I come successful in giving my best. Co-ordination is the main important thing."
"My main aim now is to run the Lok Sabha successfully, my focus is to give chances even to the
smallest parties who want to raise important central issues in the Parliament." she added.
