'Surprised' Maxwell determined to regain spot in national squad

Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has admitted that he was shocked to have been dropped from the ODI squad against Sri Lanka, but vowed to do 'whatever it takes' to regain his place in the national side.

Earlier, chief selector Rod Marsh had said that although the 27-year-old could be a match-winner for Australia, his current form doesn't warrant selection.

While insisting that he is determined to prove his worth in the squad, Maxwell said that the constant demands of the international schedule resulted in him losing focus of the little things in his training.

"I've never questioned my commitment to my country and trying to do as well as I possibly can, I think just going from tournament to tournament to tournament, and playing so much cricket, all you're thinking about is game day," Maxwell was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au.

The all-rounder said that although his commitment to play for the country has never declined, the never-ending run of cricket over the past few months was the reason behind his dip in form.

"I was so much in game-day mentality that I was probably starting to miss those little things - I wasn't quite as focused on those little things as much as I should've been," he added.

It was for the first time that Australia have named an ODI squad without Maxwell since his debut in the format in August 2012.

Australia will play five-match ODI series against Lanka, starting on August 21 in Colombo.
