A 61-year-old man from Telangana, Sunil Edla, hailing from the state's Medak district, was shot dead by a 16-year-old in New Jersey's Mays Landing area in a carjacking incident.
The teen has been nabbed and charged with murder by the US Police.
Edla's vehicle, which was missing from the spot, was subsequently found by the police later and the juvenile was tracked with the assistance of the Atlantic City surveillance center.
According to the Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon G. Tyner, Edla was killed by the boy outside his residence at Nashville Avenue in New Jersey at around 8 pm on November 15.
An autopsy was conducted on 16 November.
Last year, an engineer from Hyderabad, Srinivas Kuchibhotla, was shot down in a racially motivated hate crime at a sports bar in the city of Kansas, US. The culprit was sentenced to life imprisonment without parole.
