'Three figures' Root sledged by brother more than Watson at Lord's

Young England batsman Joe Root had reportedly been subjected to a torrent of verbal sledging from his younger brother Billy, England's 12th man for the second Investec Ashes Test at Lord's as he trudged ahead to an unbeaten 178.

According to the Mirror, although Root had braced himself for some serious sledging during this Ashes summer, and was even targeted by Australian all-rounder Shane Watson during his three figures, he did not expect him from his younger sibling.

However, the report added, Billy hugged his brother after sledging him repeatedly once he made his outstanding 178.

Quipping that he was pleased to have been greeted by his brother after the abuse he had received from him all day, Root said that Billy, who acted as England's waterboy, was probably nastier than Watson, adding that his brother was just being his cheeky self, trying to wind him up.

According to Root, Billy kept on telling him that he batted slowly and how he would be hitting it to all parts if he had been in his place, while sledging.

Meanwhile, the Yorkshire opener, who hammered home England's advantage and increase the frustration of Watson and his teammates, gallantly said that he did not blame Watson for attacking him, adding that both of them were trying to enjoy their games and play hard for their country.

Root, who made his second hundred in three Tests, following his maiden effort against New Zealand at Headingley last month, further said that a player needed to come out on the top inspite of all the attacks.
