The commander of U.S. troops in Afghanistan has warned that the Islamic State (IS) is recruiting members in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Gen John Campbell, commander of the Resolute Support mission, said that the army had received reports confirming the information in the form of "night letter drops," reported the Dawn.
The commander said that the terror group although had a "hard message to sell" in Afghanistan as the Taliban, who owe allegiance to Mullah Omar, believe in a different philosophy and ideology. However, he added that there are people who are "disgruntled" with the Taliban and haven't seen Mullah Omar in years or they want to take a different course. These are the people who may be "vulnerable to the IS message," he added.
Campbell said that the U.S. troops are doing "deep dives" into it to ensure that they are "seeing everything."
The Resolute Support is the new U.S. and Nato-led mission in Afghanistan that is now assisting Afghan security forces and combating terrorists including those affiliated with Al Qaeda.
