United States President Donald Trump will take a decision this week on whether to continue government payments to insurance companies to help lower costs for lower-income policyholders under Obamacare, White House counselor Kellyanne Conway has said.
"He's going to make that decision this week. And that's a decision that only he can make," CNN quoted Conway, as saying to Fox News.
Trump had earlier tweeted a warning that if Congress didn't pass a bill to overhaul the Affordable Care Act soon, he would end the "bailouts" for insurance companies as well as members of Congress.
His tweet came a day after the Senate didn't pass a repeal of Obamacare in a dramatic vote.
The subsidies are being paid on a monthly-basis currently making the industry worried that Trump could decide to stop paying the cost-sharing reduction subsidies at any moment.
While some carriers have requested rate hikes for next year to cover them, other carriers have decided to walk away from the individual market, no longer wanting to deal with the volatility.
