Two Jamaat-e-Islami activists have reportedly been killed in separate encounters with police in Rajshahi and Jessore respectively. Both incidents occurred today, reports the Daily Star.
Shahabuddin Mufid, information secretary of the Rajshahi University Islami Chhatra Shibir unit, was killed when police opened live gunfire on crude bomb-wielding Shibir men in Rajshahi city this morning.
The incident took place in the Shamsadipur area near the university around 8 a.m.
Shibir President Habibur Rahman and activist Mufijur Rahman were injured in the incident and are being treated at the Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
The paper revealed that constable Mahbubur Rahman, the body guard of RMP DC Nahidul Islam, also sustained injuries during the encounter. He was taken at Police Line Hospital for treatment.
In another incident, Jamaat activist Shahidul Islam was killed in a gunfight with police in Jessore Sadar upazila around 2.15 a.m. today.
