Uttam Khobragade, father of Indian diplomat Devyani Khobragade who was arrested in New York last Thursday today said that U.S attorney Preet Bharara made a very damaging statement which was a direct attack on the Indian Judiciary system.
"Today Preet Bharara made a very damaging statement. Her statement is not an attack on her, but on Indian judiciary system," said Khobragade.
"This is completely a fabricated case, and the process is unseen in U.S criminal arrest history: The injustice done with Devyani will be rectified only if false and fabricated case is withdrawn in New York court," he said.
"Sangeeta made application for the visa, she signed the application and she was interviewed twice. In the application made for visa of Sangeeta, the salary written is $4500 per month, which was the employer's (Devyani) salary, but they are claiming it to be the servant's salary," he added.
He said he would try to have a meeting with Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on this matter.
"I will try to meet Sonia Gandhi or Manmohan Singh. If my daughter cannot be safeguarded, her honor is not restored. If the false criminal cases cannot be withdrawn even by such a strong country of 100 crores, then what is the purpose of staying in this country as a citizen,' he said.
"Though, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the people of the nation and the government who have stood up firmly for us. The media too has been supportive," he added.
