To curb traffic congestion, incidents of eve teasing, and other crimes, police in Udhampur district have launched a mounted police ride system.
It was flagged off by Inspector General of Police Surinder Kumar Gupta (Udhampur-Reasi Range), IGP Rajesh Kumar, Director (SKPA) and Deputy Commissioner Neeraj Kumar of the Campus Police Station Udhampur .
"We welcome the patrolling done on horses in the city. It will help in the reduction of crime," said Sumit Magotra a local resident.
"Our motive is to control crime, maintain law and order and maintain traffic. If this works fine, then, we will follow this in other places also. We won't use it on national highways, just in lanes and markets," said a police officer.
Udhampur district is the first district in Jammu and Kashmir this form of patrolling.
