Uber will soon introduce an update to its privacy policy, wherein it will ask the riders permission to track their location while running in the background.

According to the Verge, the new update will help riders get to their destinations more quickly.

As per the changes to be applicable by July 15, the riders will be asked to share their contacts with Uber and the company will send special offers to their friends and families.

The company also posted complete descriptions of the permissions it is seeking for both Android and iOS.

However, the background tracking and contact-sharing options will be optional for users.
