South Korea's Prime Minister Lee Nak-yeon said that the United States is the main player in efforts to end North Korea's nuclear programme.
It is linked closely to guaranteeing the security of the regime in Pyongyang, he added.
"When it comes to the denuclearisation issue, the U.S. cannot help but be the main player because it is linked to guaranteeing the (North's) system," Yonhap quoted Lee, as saying.
Lee made the remark, at the end of his weeklong trip to Europe.
South Korea has played a mediating role between the U.S. and the North by assuring that the most awaited summit between the United States President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un takes place in Singapore on June 12, as scheduled.
