Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) councillor Neeraj Gupta on Wednesday denied that he had slapped a Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) junior engineer, adding that he had been pushed in the crowd.
"I was called to the site of the construction by the home owner. When I went there, I was surrounded by other people who naturally would follow me back to the site. Due to the large number of people, there was a little pushing and shoving. That is all there is to it," Gupta told ANI.
"I have never slapped anyone. This clip being circulated is false and I completely deny these allegations," he added.
A video clip earlier in the day, showed Gupta, who is the councillor for Ward 188, slapping the junior engineer, surrounded by people, in Sangam Vihar East area in south Delhi where he had gone to stop an unauthorised construction. The video soon went viral.
The MCD official had come to stop the unauthorized construction in the area.
