'Defeated' NC trying to come back to power through back door: PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday alleged that the defeated National Conference (NC) was trying to come back to power in Jammu and Kashmir through the back door.

PDP spokesperson Naeem Akhtar said the National Conference has failed to realise that it has been defeated by the people in the assembly elections.

"Now, they want to come back through the back door into power and keep themselves afloat for the next six years. They have been given a long leave," PDP spokesperson Naeem Akhtar said.

"I don't think they are in any position to decide who should make the government and with whom," he added while asserting that the PDP would not give them a chance to come to power through the backdoor.

Akhtar's comment came a day after former chief minister Omar Abdullah wrote to Jammu and Kashmir Governor N.N. Vohra pledging his party's support to the PDP for government formation.

Meanwhile, Panthers Party chief Bhim Singh said there is a constitutional crisis in the state, adding that there was a need for fresh elections.

"There is a constitutional crisis in the state and we have to go for fresh elections," Singh said.

"Without panthers' no government shall be formed in Jammu and Kashmir in future," he added.

The Governor's rule has been imposed in Jammu and Kashmir after the assembly elections in the state threw a fractured verdict, with no party able to win the required number of seats to form the government.

Last month, a fractured verdict in the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections left no party with a clear majority. The highest number of seats was won by the PDP, but the party with 28 seats fell well short of the 44 seats required to form the government.
