We anticipated Pakistan would use tunnels to infiltrate post surgical strike: BSF

In the wake of recent Samba attack in Jammu and Kashmir in which three terrorists were killed, Border Security Force (BSF) Director General K.K. Sharma on Wednesday said that they had anticipated that only a tunnel can be used to infiltrate the Indian side, and had deployed 'nakas' (underground check posts) in depth, through which their team spotted the militants and neutralised them.

While briefing the media, Sharma said, "We had named the recent operations in Jammu and Kashmir as operation Rustom, after the founder father of BSF was K.F. Rustam ji. After the surgical strikes, we anticipated that the problem will not remain confined to the Line of Control, we anticipated that the international boundary would also be affected. And as a result, we made preparations and half the battle is won when preparation is good."

"As per the information, available so far in the ceasefire violations and shelling from both the sides, more than 15 of the Pakistan Tangers have been killed and more than 10 militants, who were trying to infiltrate from time to time have been neutralised by us. And a number border outposts have been very heavily damaged by the BSF by the accurate firing from our side," he added.

Sharma further said, "Fortunately for the last 15 days the IB is quiet, there is no shelling except the night of 28th, when some militants infiltrated and in order to give them cover fire, there was firing from the other side. Today morning only during the thorough search of the area, we were in a position to detect a very small tunnel. As we had anticipated that tunnel can be used to infiltrate to our side, we had deployed nakas in depth and it was our depth naka which has actually spotted these people and neutralised them."

Sharma added that they don't have any technology to detect an existing tunnel and to be on the safer side they deploy depth nakas and this depth naka, they actually detected the presence of militants and were in a position to neutralise them.

BSF troops killed three terrorists as they foiled an infiltration attempt from across the international border at Fatwal village in Chamliyal area, Ramgarh sector, early Tuesday.

Four BSF personnel including a DIG were injured in an IED explosion while retrieving bodies of slain terrorists.

According to sources, the BSF troops had noticed a suspicious movement along the international border around midnight.

Pakistan Rangers reportedly began unprovoked firing on the Indian side to give cover to the infiltrators.
