The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) has hailed Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao as the 'real hero' for ignoring threats to his life and achieving statehood for Telangana despite all odds.
Telangana Home Minister Nayani Narasimha Reddy said KCR proved all those of the opinion that statehood for Telanagana was not possible wrong.
"KCR ignored threats to his life and achieved Telangana. Many said Telangana was not possible, KCR proved them wrong," he said.
Reddy's assertion came as the TRS celebrated "Deeksha Divas" across Telangana and in the national capital.
Talking to the media in Hyderabad, Reddy also thanked Congress president Sonia Gandhi as it was the former UPA regime, which granted statehood to Telangana in 2014.
"Sacrifices of our youth and KCR's fast-unto-death forced the UPA government to grant statehood to Telangana. We achieved our just demand," he said, adding the formation of Telangana accelerated development in Andhra Pradesh.
The TRS workers in the national capital also observed 'Deeksha Divas' in memory of Chandrasekhar Rao to recall his fast-unto death, which led to the formation of Telangana as a separate state.
Rao had begun his indefinite fast on November 29, 2009.
The Chief Minister's daughter and Member of Parliament K. Kavitha were among those present in the function held at Telangana Bhawan in the national capital.
"It was today when unrelenting pursuit of A FIGHTER turned into a revolution leading to SeperateStatehood#DeekshaDiwas#JaiKCR #JaiTelangana," she tweeted earlier.
