'West Bengal has become hub of terrorist activities': Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury

Condemning the bomb explosion at Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Jagannath Choudhury's residence in West Bengal's Murshidabad district, Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said on Thursday that West Bengal has become a hub of terrorist activities as a result of deteriorating law and order situation.

"Bengal has become the hub of terrorist activities. There are a number of districts in West Bengal which are very much adjacent to Bangladesh. So naturally taking advantage of the porous city of the border and the lack of law and order infrastructure, terrorists are taking advantage and as a result of which, Bengal has become a safe haven of anti-national activities," said Chowdhury.

"It has become a transit corridor for purveying drugs, arms, ammunitions and explosives. In the last few days, the people of Bengal are repressing that we are virtually sitting on a ticking bomb," he added.

He also said that, not only National Investigation Agency (NIA) but Military Intelligence, National Security Guards, Intelligence Bureau, all the premier agencies of the government those who are expert in various field are in hold in unearthing the terrorist network in West Bengal.

This is the second blast in West Bengal in a month and has once again brought the state's security under the frame of question.

A similar explosion had taken place on October 2 at another TMC leader's house in Burdwan town, killing two suspected militants and injuring one.

Two women were arrested in connection with the explosion on October 5. The police are probing the possible involvement of militant outfits like Lashkar-e-Toiba and Harkat-ul Jihad al-Islami in the blast.

A large number of watch dials, SIM cards, and other tools required to make improvised explosive devices were found in the house where blast took place during the festival of Durga Puja.
