Passengers at the New Delhi railway station will now be able to access free internet for 30 minutes as the Indian Railways has finally launched free Wi-fi internet service at the busy train station.
People can access the internet over Wi-fi on any of the platforms free of cost for an initial period of 30 minutes.
Beyond 30 minutes, the user would be required to purchase scratch cards costing Rs 25 for 30 minutes and Rs 35 for an hour in order to continue using the service. The scratch cards will be available round the clock at the Wi-fi helpdesks near the Ajmeri Gate and Paharganj gates of the station.
Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu, who launched the service on Monday, said that the Railways was planning to launch this service at all the major stations across the country. He also said that the Indian Railways is fully committed to the use of IT for improving facilities for rail users.
The Wi-Fi project of the Indian Railways is being executed by RailTel, a Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) of the Ministry of Railways. To start with, the Railways is working towards providing Wi-fi facility at 75 A1 category stations within a period of 12 months.
