Will work to strengthening Congress Party: Shakeel Ahmed

Newly appointed Congress Party general secretary said on Monday that as a unit would try to work towards strengthening the party ahead of the 2014 polls.

"The elections in Delhi are due and as per my abilities, I would like to contribute to it. I also wish that our party gets an opportunity to win the elections for the fourth time. We will try our best to once again win the trust of the people of Delhi," said Ahmed.

New office bearers of the Congress Party attended a meeting in New Delhi after the revamping of the organisation.

Earlier on Sunday, Congress party appointed Ajay Maken, CP Joshi, Ambika Soni and Gurudas Kamat as new general secretaries and dropped Gulam Nabi Azad and Oscar Fernandes.

Earlier, Maken and then Joshi had resigned from their ministerial posts.

Among the others appointed as general secretaries are Mohan Prakash, and Luizinho Faleiro.

Maken was made incharge of the media which was earlier handled by Janardan Dwivedi from past six years.

Madhusudan Mistry was made in charge of Uttar Pradesh and Digvijay Singh of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Goa.

Mistry said he would try to live upto the expectation of the party high command.
