The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) has reportedly sacked Darren Sammy from the post of Test captain and replaced him with Denesh Ramdin following their recent woeful Test record- they languish in eighth spot in the ICC rankings.
Wicketkeeper/batsman Ramdin had already been understudy to Sammy, who retains the leadership of the Twenty20 squad, and he has played 56 Tests in addition to 109 ODIs and 46 T20 internationals.
According to the Sydney Morning Herald, West Indies will now have three different captains for the three international formats - Ramdin for Tests, Sammy, who was in charge since 2010, with the T20 side and Dwayne Bravo as head of the ODI squad.
WICB president Dave Cameron thanked Sammy for his 'energetic and resolute leadership' over the past four years and said that they continued to see his role as the T20 captain as a critical one.
Stating that he is honoured to be named the new Test skipper, Ramdin hailed his predecessor for his humility and hard work during his time at the helm, and he vowed to give his all in the successful first assignment as Test captain against the New Zealand.
Sammy also offered his support, congratulations and best wishes to Ramdin for his new job and the forthcoming assignment.
