Manipur's Directorate of Environment recently observed World Environment Day at the MFDC Auditorium under the UNEP theme, "Small island developing states in the broader context of climate change".
The officials highlighted the amount of forests destroyed every year for Jhum cultivation in the state.
However, in Assam, the students and faculty members of Assam Agriculture University celebrated the World Environment Day with a tree plantation and sapling distribution programme.
This year's UN World Environment Day theme "Raise your voice, not the sea level" was briefly highlighted at the event.
Saplings were also distributed to the general public.
