Yuva Morcha demonstrators protest against Shatrughan Sinha for endorsing Advani as PM candidate

Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) members took to the streets in protest against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Shatrughan Sinha on Sunday for his statement endorsing Senior party leader L.K Advani as the Prime Ministerial candidate for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

The protesters hurled anti-Shatrughan Sinha slogans, carried posters slamming his statement and even burnt an effigy of the actor-turned-politician.

"We want to give the BJP our message, which is that if we are endorsing them to come into power then it is our condition that Narendra Modi is our Prime Minister," said an agitated BJYM protester here today.

The protesters also warned that if any BJP politician endorsed a candidate apart from Modi, a similar protest would be organized against the concerned person.

"We will not tolerate any statements made by politicians which are against Modi...We, the youth, have woken up and risen in unity and assure you that we will not tolerate this," said a protester from the BJYM.

According to news reports, on Friday, BJP MP Shatrughan Sinha re-launched an attack on the Gujarat Chief Minister, saying that his party had made a compromise by announcing Narendra Modi as the Chairman of its Campaign Committee in the lead up to the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

Sinha made a direct comparison between Modi and Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan, in a television interview, saying that if popularity was a criteria then the latter should be the President of India.

Sinha had earlier publicly endorsed both Senior BJP leader L.K. Advani and Janata Dal (United) chief Nitish Kumar as the suitable Prime Ministerial candidates.

Contrary to Sinha's public statements, BJP President Rajnath Singh has constantly assured that there is an internal consensus on the Prime Ministerial candidate for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections and that Modi is the most popular leader within the opposition party.

Nitish Kumar's JD(U) had walked out the NDA after Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi was elevated to Chairman of the Campaign Committee.
