Curfew relaxed for four hours in Assam's Karbi Anglong district

Assam's Karbi Anglong district continues to remain tense but the curfew has been relaxed at Diphu for four hours from 8 a.m on Sunday.

The shutdown was called for a separate state for the Karbi Tribe.

According to reports, curfew was relaxed for four hours and the traffic had begun to trickle back to the streets and some shops have reopened.

Reports quote Deputy Commissioner as saying that the situation has slightly improved at Diphu.

Violence continued to rock Karbi Anglong district where various government offices were torched and train tracks were removed by activists of different organizations on August 3, demanding a separate state on the lines of Telangana.

According to reports, army is staging flag marches at Diphu and 28 additional companies of security forces have been deployed to maintain law and order.
