With the launch of facelifted Vento, the German car manufacturer has once again freshened its presence in the Indian C-segment scenario. The same segment is home to one of the most successful cars in the country that include Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and Hyundai Verna 4S. While a few others like the Skoda Rapid, Nissan Sunny and Ford Fiesta will also be faired against this update of Vento. Lets see if this updated VW receives what it takes to lift its image a notch high.

Exteriors:

Since Vento has received just minor update, there isn’t much going on the design front. The car carries its ever popular elegance with subtle creases, but the company has adorned the front and rear with chrome garnishes, bumper-integrated reflectors, chrome exhaust tip and new set of alloys. When pitted against the competition, Honda City, Verna and Ford Fiesta take the crown with their sporty appeal while the Ciaz is more of a mix of both the worlds (elegance and sportiness). Considering Skoda Rapid and Nissan Sunny, they too end up looking quite simple.

Insides:

The cockpit of Vento is done with good quality materials, better than many in this segment, but the layout is on the conventional side and ends up looking dated. On a good note, it get a fine music system, generous amount of space, a multi-function flat bottomed steering wheel and comfortable seats. But when considering the likes of City and Ciaz, both of these are offering touchscreen infotainment system and a more contemporary looking cockpit layout that out-styles the Vento’s.

Engine:

This is one place where VW masters over the competition, it offers two petrol options and one 1.5 litre TDi diesel motor. All of these options produces either equivalent or more performance figure than the competition. Also, they are very smooth and linear in operation and power delivery. While Honda’s 1.5 i-Dtec, Ciaz's 1.3 MJD and Fiesta 1.5 TDCi take the top spot when it comes to fuel economy with over 25 kmpl with the diesel variants.
