At the upcoming Moscow International Automobile Salon (MIAS), ace German carmaker BMW will display the latest additions to its product portfoilio. To be held from August 29th to September 7th at the Crocus Expo IEC exhibition centre, the motoring event will witness brand’s entire model line-up, including the earlier reported new BMW X3 and X4 and the BMW X5 Security Plus.

The BMW X5 Security Plus is based on the standard X5 Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV), and offers protection of VR6 standard. The vehicle can withstand Mikhail’s Kalashnikov rounds (AK-47) along with the assault of SWAT’s favourite M4 Carbine and other common automatic rifles. “Offering a comprehensive system of protection against violent assault, kidnapping and organised crime, the new BMW X5 Security Plus thus meets the needs of risk-exposed private individuals and prominent public figures with enhanced security requirements.,” stated the company.

According to the German carmaker, for increased safety and security the upgraded X5 gets toughened bullet proof safety glass around windshields and windows. While the seam joints and connecting panels have also been upgraded and designed in a way to give its high profile passengers a complete safety from a possible outside attack. To make that sure, windows are offered with a polycarbonate coating which is effective in stopping bullets of all kind. The interiors looks similar to the standard X5 SUV, though the automaker has updated driver aids and suspension along with a new switchgear which is now fitted to the center console.

Powered by the same 4.4-litre V8 engine, that churns out 449bhp and 650 Nm of peak torque. Since the X5 gets security enhancement, the kerb weight of the SUV gets an additional load of 2250 kgs., still the car does 0 to 100kmph mark in 4.9 seconds.
