Ford has started the production of its new global compact car Ford KA which is our next-gen Ford Figo. Under the company's 'One Ford' policy we will be getting this car soon. Earlier, Ford India also showcased the concept version of the next-gen Figo at the Expo earlier this year in a compact sedan avatar. Moreover, apart from the hatch the company will also launch its débutante compact sedan into the India market; both the cars will share their faces but the latter looks more premium while the former is more sportier looking.
The sedan (KA+) and hatch (KA) both are going on sale in Brazil this September. The sedan in South American country is a nudge over 4m while the Indian version will be sub-4m for the tax benefits. Moreover, both the next gen Figo and the compact sedan are reportedly the first products to roll out of Ford India's upcoming plant in Sanand Gujarat; plant will be operational probably by the first half of 2015. Furthermore, the compact sedan will rival against Tata Zest, Hyundai Xcent, Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire and Honda Amaze. While hatch's major rivals will be Maruti Suzuki Swift and Hyundai Grand i10.
Major highlight of the launch will be the new petrol engine bringing Figo petrol on par with its rivals, which it lacks on certain levels as of now. The new minuscule 1.0 12V TiVCT is a powerhouse, features latest double variable command on intake and exhaust. The motor develops a maximum power of 85bhp and a peak torque of 105Nm. About the diesel, both the vehicle will certainly get a new diesel too or the Fiesta sourced 1.5L TDCI.
